We are Ted Merrill and Bill Merrill, and we are brothers, both in our eighties—the senior surviving members of this Merrill lineage. Many years ago we both told our children bedtime stories—"exciting adventures from my childhood"—and eventually we jointly put the stories together in a book, River Runts.
Ted, a retired physician, has recently published a medical memoir, I Only Dress the Wounds. Bill, retired from a teaching career in public schools and university, with a PhD degree in geography, has written a critique of our modern and increasingly technological civilization, Wisdom of the Tools, which has just been published. Other works are in various stages of development by various members of the family.
These books are offered here under the banner of Homeostasis Press, a home-owned self-publishing endeavor geared to the rapid changes in the publishing world over the past few years. The book printing is done by Lightning Source, Inc., a print-on-demand company that can print the books and have them in your hand within days of your order.
Fortunately, Ted's sons David, Richard, and Bob Merrill are skilled in computerizing and website wizardry, so not only these books but also this web site are family products.
In addition to marketing books, we may be tempted from time to time to offer on this website unpublished servings of philosophy, profound insights, and other personal biases as the impulse strikes. (For example, What is Homeostasis?) Subject matter may vary widely but will generally reflect the presumption that when you're old, in looking back you can see more.
